The project titled “Bird’s-Eye View – Exploring the Potential Uses of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in Extracurricular Activities” is featured in the Tempus Public Foundation’s Digital Toolkit and is linked to a project day within a digital camp. Its aim is to introduce students to the possibilities of artificial intelligence in a creative way, while enhancing their digital and collaborative skills through real-life experiences.

Key Activities and Student Experience

Key Student Activities:

  • Image and Text Creation Students use generative AI tools to produce visuals, write stories, or design presentations.
  • Video Production Learners create short films or animations with AI support, often focusing on environmental themes.
  • On-Site Experiential Learning Activities take place at the White Stork Conservation Visitor Center, where students observe nature and collect data.
  • Field Study Excursion A boat trip provides real-world experiences that students later process using digital tools.
  • Digital Content Development Students design educational materials, posters, or slideshows with the help of AI.
  • Reflective Evaluation Learners receive feedback on AI-generated content and assess their own learning journey.

Program Features and Pedagogical Principles

Core Pedagogical Principles:

  • Experiential Learning Students gain real-world experiences through field trips and nature-based activities, which they later process using digital tools.
  • Creativity Development Generative AI is used to support image editing, storytelling, and video creation, encouraging original student work.
  • Digital Competency Building Learners explore how AI works, discuss ethical considerations, and learn to use it responsibly.
  • Personalized Learning Paths AI tools enable students to create customized content and receive tailored feedback.
  • Reflective Thinking Students evaluate both their own learning process and the content generated by AI.
  • Collaborative Learning Group work and shared creative tasks foster teamwork and peer-to-peer learning.

Methodology and Structure

Program Structure Overview:

  1. Introduction to Generative AI Students explore the basics of GAI and its creative applications (e.g. image editing, storytelling, video production).
  2. On-Site Learning Experience Activities take place at the White Stork Conservation Visitor Center, where students observe nature and collect data.
  3. Field Study Excursion A boat trip offers real-world experiences that serve as inspiration for digital content creation.
  4. Creative Production with AI Tools Learners use GAI to generate images, texts, and videos based on their observations and ideas.
  5. Content Development and Presentation Students design posters, slideshows, or educational materials and present their work to peers.
  6. Reflection and Evaluation The program concludes with feedback sessions and self-assessment of the learning process and AI-generated outputs.

Expected Outcomes and Value

A “Bird’s-Eye View” project is structured to guide students through a creative and experiential journey using generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in extracurricular settings. The structure blends technology, creativity, and real-world exploration, helping students develop digital fluency and collaborative skills in a meaningful way.
