The "Moje Famílie" (My Family) project is an educational initiative aimed at enhancing financial literacy among primary school students in the Czech Republic. The project’s objective is to introduce children to the principles of money management, family budgeting, and the value of money through an interactive game and educational materials. Implemented in collaboration with OVB Allfinanz, a.s., the project is tailored to the age of younger students, making the content easily understandable, engaging, and motivating. It allows children to actively observe how their decisions affect the family’s economic situation and to learn fundamental principles of financial responsibility from an early age.

Key Activities and Student Experience

The main activity of the project is an online game in which students assume the role of a family manager. The goal is to manage a four-member family so that the household budget is balanced while ensuring that all family members remain healthy and satisfied. During the game, children face various decisions, such as how to allocate money for groceries, clothing, school supplies, or whether the family will take advantage of opportunities to earn extra income through weekend jobs. The game is played in five rounds, each affecting income, expenses, and random events impacting the health and happiness of family members. This interactive simulator enables students to see the consequences of their choices, practice planning, weigh options, and make compromises between different needs. Feedback in each round allows children to identify effective strategies and adjust their decisions to ensure the family thrives.

Program Features and Principles

The project promotes active learning, engagement, and student autonomy through a fun and educational format. The game is designed to be both appealing and instructive, teaching children the basics of financial planning, understanding the value of money, and the consequences of financial decisions. It encourages the development of critical thinking, foresight, and the ability to analyze different solutions. The program also fosters social skills, as children discuss decisions and share strategies with peers. The initiative is free, non-commercial, and anonymous, ensuring data protection and a safe environment for experimentation.

Methodology and Structure

The project is delivered as an online activity accessible to all primary schools through registration on the official website. The game and accompanying materials are adapted for younger students to facilitate the gradual acquisition of financial literacy fundamentals. Students progress step by step, learning to plan family expenses, monitor income and budgets, make decisions between immediate and long-term needs, and respond to unexpected events. This approach provides children with both knowledge and practical experience applicable to everyday life.

Expected Outcomes and Value Participants acquire foundational financial literacy skills, including budgeting, spending decisions, understanding the value of money, and the importance of saving. The project develops practical skills essential for daily life and fosters responsible financial decision-making. The interactive format actively engages children in the learning process, increasing motivation and interest in the subject. Additionally, the project promotes critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate the consequences of decisions, while encouraging cooperation and communication with others.
