Open Company (Otwarta firma)  is a nationwide educational program in Poland, implemented as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week. It is designed for primary school students and high school students. The program's goal is to enrich the schools' educational offerings and prepare students for making informed educational and career choices. The core idea is to establish cooperation between schools and local companies or institutions to inspire young people and develop their entrepreneurial skills.

Key Activities and Student Experience

The central element of the practice involves meetings between students and representatives of the local business community, who act as volunteers. These meetings can take the form of a visit to a company or a specially prepared lesson in the classroom ("Business at the Blackboard"). During these events, students learn about a company's operations, the specifics of various professions, and real-world working conditions. This direct contact with practitioners allows them to test their assumptions about professions, expand their knowledge of entrepreneurship fundamentals, and get answers to their questions. Students develop competencies such as collaboration, effective communication, and problem-solving.

Program Features and Principles

The practice's uniqueness lies in creating a direct bridge between education and business, based on volunteerism and social responsibility. The program emphasizes practical experience and gaining knowledge firsthand. It strengthens the school's cooperation with the local community, including companies and parents, who often serve as experts. The program is highly valued for providing quality informational and educational materials for all participants.

Methodology and Structure (briefly)

The program has a modular structure adapted for different age groups. For students in grades IV-VI, there is the "Getting to know companies in our neighborhood" module (a company visit); for grades VII-VIII, the "Employee-Entrepreneur-Enterprise" module; and for high school students, the "Business at the Blackboard" module (a meeting with a specialist at school). Meetings typically last 1-2 lesson hours and are conducted as part of subjects like "Basics of Entrepreneurship" or homeroom classes. The events can be held both in-person and online.

Expected Outcomes and Value

The practice helps students plan their professional future and connect it to their place of residence. They gain a clearer understanding of the labor market and the opportunities it offers. For teachers, the program is a ready-made methodological solution that helps diversify the educational process and establish contacts with the business environment. For business volunteers, it is an opportunity to share their experience and contribute to the development of the younger generation.
